looking colourful after a couple of days!
…turns out my ‘bruised’ shoulder was a bit more serious than I first thought. When the adrenaline from racing had worn off it was really painful, and with no improvement 2 days later I had to pay another visit to the hospital. By then I was fairly certain it was broken and could only hope it wouldn’t take too long to heal.
An x-ray confirmed I fractured my collar bone, “nothing serious” the doctor told me, “only 3-4 weeks to heal”. ONLY?! He fixed me up with a big, dramatic looking strap so that I can’t move my arm too much (a friend told me it looks like a straight jacket they give people in a mental asylum – thanks Juha!) and I’ve to go for a check up next week. I suppose it could be worse but after the knee problem I’m really not in the mood for another injury. At least I can say I rode over half a race with a broken bone, and I know I wasn’t making excuses for being slow!
The full frustration of not being able to ride hasn’t quite set in yet – it was so painful all the time for the first few days that biking was the last thing I wanted to do. But now its much less sore, the sun is out, its the weekend…I’ve ordered a turbo trainer so as soon as that arrives I can get back into fun training sessions, but this weekend I think its hiking in the mountains. Nice enough but not the same, I’m too much of an adrenaline junkie these days!
ps. thanks to Ciarán for pimping my website!
Ouch, ouch, ouch. That looks so nasty – heal up soon.
Its a bit more normal looking now thankfully.
Its amazing what you can do to your brain in a race though, pretty sure I wouldn’t even have managed to ride home if I did it on a normal spin!
OMG you’re mental
Fecking eejit! ( he he )
tell me about it!
