Alpine training

Just coming to the end of an amazing week of hot, dry weather and brilliant Alpine trails. I’ve been working on high end fitness and climbing which is hard work but the reward of singletrack descents make it all worthwhile. I’ve climbed over 5100m in 10hrs over the last four days!

Comparing to Dublin, my equivalent to a quick 3 rock spin is a 1200m climb and then back down on singletrack all the way – something like a combination of KDM, GC, and Benchcut on drugs! tighter, steeper switchback, bigger rocks, huge drops off the edge etc. Needless to say its a lot faster to come down than going up. It gets a bit hairy at times, I’ve ridden about 90% so far but have to clean it before I leave!

Today I went exploring in Switzerland, it was a bit hit and miss because I kept getting carried away going up hill and having to turn round because of snow, but I did find a few amazing trails and there’ll definitely be more in a week or so if this weather keeps up. I wish I had a camera, the mountains and views are amazing, really cool to be riding in shorts and t-shirt surrounded by snow. My biker tan lines are coming on nicely as well and its only April!

Looking forward to round 2 of the Racer Bikes Cup in Lugano next Saturday – there’s another list of top class competition entered and its good excuse to travel a bit and ride somewhere new.
